The History
Neil Moore started DJ’ng in around about 1984 (aged 14'ish). The 80's soul sound kept him going through these years until house music exploded onto the club scene in 1988, which incidentally coincided with his eighteenth birthday. His first Dj'ing gigs centred around Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire. 1988 also saw him joining the Royal Navy as a Weapon Engineering Mechanic. At HM governments expense he then proceeded to see just about every corner of the world (except the Falklands which BFBS saw fit to send him in 1998) which included eighteen months in Gibraltar and three and half years in Hong Kong.
While serving in the Navy the DJ'ing continued at several clubs in Portsmouth and at home. This developed into a interest in radio when he started and ran an internal radio station onboard a navy ship. (With a little help from BFBS tapes) Moving to Gibraltar brought the first direct contact with BFBS. He continued as a volunteer for a year until posting back to the UK. Freelance work later came along at BFBS in Hong Kong including specialist dance shows as well as sets at various events around Hong Kong, before being taken on full time in 1998.
In August 2001 Neil arrived in Germany for BFBS. After two years in Brunei. At first he took over drive time but covered every daytime program at some point including Breakfast for long periods. 2002 saw RASS 2002 being one of the highlights With Neil handling all the on air promotion and organising the Saturday night line up, which for the first time at the RASS saw DJ's headlining as opposed to bands. Neil kicked off the night with the first set in front of thousands of people which steadily grew for the two headliners Sash and DJ Quicksilver who both had the RASS showground bouncing to a different beat. Summer 2002 saw his brand new show Club Culture going live in Germany. Before hitting the network on Saturday nights at 11pm.
Neil Moore was Head of promotions in Germany, presenting the Ministry of Sound program Friday's at 9pm, Club Culture at 9pm Saturday evening. This included a monthly mix residency on Club Culture which featured such DJ's as Paul van Dyk, Judge Jules, DJ Quicksilver, CJ Stone, Phats n Small, DJ Shog and Mr Phillips Plus many others. The last six summers have seen Club Culture feature a whole host of the worlds finest DJ's recorded live on the decks at various Venues and Events in Ibiza. (Including Judge Jules, Paul Van Dyk & Shapeshifters plus too many more to mention. Plus many programs from the Studio’s situated at Cafй Mambo and Neil also played the warm up set for DJ Sammy at the Heaven Closing party at Es Paradis in 2004.
Currently…
Neil is now Network Production Manager at BFBS UK, and Dance Music Output co-ordinator. He still presents Club Culture live every Saturday night from what ever location he happens to be in (He’s just returned from 2 months at BFBS Radio’s studio in Iraq) Plus he’s resident DJ for the first hour of HeavensGate, with second hour residents Alex M.o.r.p.h. and Woody Van Eyden, and overall producer for Radio of the program. HeavensGate is currently syndicated on over 25 stations around the world including BFBS Radio and Germany’s number one specialist Dance Station ‘Sunshine live’.
BFBS Radio can also now be heard across the UK on SKY Guide No 0211.
Summer 2007 included playing gigs in Germany at clubs and festivals including the Gatecrasher Tent on both nights at the Nature One festival (on the Saturday while presenting a Live Club Culture on BFBS Radio at the same time!!) and the Love Parade.
Style
Neil‘s first love when it come to spinnin’ tunes is Deep, progressive and Electro House. But one listen to Club Culture on a Saturday night will highlight the fact he is totally at home with everything from Mainstream Funky House to hands in the air Euphoric Trance. (Although Trance sets are rare)
